Tirzepatide reduces fat tissue aging, inflammation, and energy problems in estrogen-deficient obese diabetic mice

Abstract

Tirzepatide treatment normalized body weight and reduced relative brown adipose tissue mass by 25% in a mouse model combining obesity, type 2 diabetes, and estrogen deficiency.

  • Obese-diabetic mice displayed a 1.3-fold increase in body weight compared to control groups.
  • Tirzepatide corrected a 3.6-fold increase in leptin and a 1.8-fold increase in insulin in obese-diabetic mice.
  • Levels of Monocyte Chemotactic Protein-2 and resistin were reduced by approximately 60% and 42%, respectively, after treatment.
  • Histological analysis indicated that tirzepatide reversed the whitening of brown adipose tissue and restored healthy fat cell structure.
  • Gene expression analysis showed tirzepatide significantly regulated thermogenic and mitochondrial fusion genes, along with markers of cellular stress and autophagy dysfunction.
