Tirzepatide reduces thinking decline in zebrafish with type 2 diabetes caused by high-fat diet

Updated

Abstract

Treatment with TZP (10 nM/kg) significantly improved cognitive impairment in a zebrafish model of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

  • Cognitive impairment is associated with diabetes mellitus and was assessed using behavioral tests.
  • High-fat diet administration created a T2DM-like zebrafish model for analysis.
  • TZP treatment restored levels of antioxidant markers like glutathione and catalase.
  • TZP also reduced inflammatory marker IL-10 and improved abnormal glucose and lipid profiles.
  • The neuroprotective effects of TZP may be linked to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic properties.
