Effectiveness of tirzepatide, lanifibranor, and resmetirom for fatty liver disease linked to metabolism: a combined analysis of top clinical trials

The analysis included 2497 individuals with MASLD/MASH, showing significant effects on hepatic steatosis for tirzepatide and resmetirom.

  • Tirzepatide significantly reduced hepatic steatosis by 34.90%, while resmetirom reduced it by 31.45%, both measured using MRI-PDFF.
  • Tirzepatide also significantly lowered serum aminotransferase levels, with a 30.90% reduction in ALT and a 20.71% reduction in AST.
  • Lanifibranor showed improvements in lipid profiles but did not achieve a statistically significant improvement in fibrosis.
  • All agents led to MASH resolution without worsening of fibrosis in some patients.
  • Gastrointestinal adverse events were frequently reported across all treatment arms, which may impact patient tolerability.
  • Further large-scale studies are warranted to confirm the efficacy and safety of tirzepatide and lanifibranor in MASLD/MASH management.
