Tirzepatide compared to placebo and predicted 10-year heart disease risk in Japanese adults with obesity

Updated

Abstract

Tirzepatide treatment was associated with a 2.8% reduction in predicted 10-year cardiovascular disease risk compared to placebo.

  • Mean predicted 10-year cardiovascular disease risk at baseline for participants was 12.6%.
  • Participants receiving tirzepatide (10 mg) experienced a significant reduction in predicted CVD risk by Week 72.
  • Those on tirzepatide (15 mg) also showed a significant reduction in predicted CVD risk over the same period.
  • In contrast, participants receiving placebo had an increase of 2.0% in predicted CVD risk.
  • Projected estimates suggest that 123,000 cardiovascular events could be preventable in Japan over 10 years with tirzepatide treatment, compared to an increase of 88,000 events with placebo.
