Real-world use of tirzepatide for managing obesity in multiple centers in the Campania region, Italy

Abstract

Treatment with tirzepatide at 2.5 mg and 5.0 mg resulted in significant reductions in body weight and metabolic parameters among 70 adults with obesity.

  • Dose-dependent reductions in body weight, BMI, and waist circumference were observed (p < 0.001 for all vs baseline and between doses).
  • Improvements in metabolic parameters included reductions in total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides (p = 0.006, p = 0.001, and p < 0.001, respectively).
  • Fasting plasma glucose, insulin levels, and prediabetes prevalence also significantly improved (p < 0.001 for all vs baseline; p < 0.001 between doses).
  • Renal function showed improvement at both doses (p = 0.025 for 2.5 mg; p = 0.005 for 5.0 mg).
  • Gastrointestinal adverse events were mild and comparable between the two doses.
