Trehalose helped amateur cyclists perform better in a 20-minute cycling test after 100 minutes of cycling

Updated

Abstract

Trehalose supplementation improved time-trial performance by 15 kJ compared to placebo.

  • Thirteen male cyclists participated in a double-blind, crossover study to compare the effects of different carbohydrate supplements during endurance exercise.
  • Compared to placebo, trehalose led to a significant increase in total work done during a time trial.
  • Maltodextrin resulted in higher blood glucose levels throughout the endurance exercise compared to other carbohydrate sources.
  • No significant differences were observed in heart rate, perceived exertion, muscle glycogen content, or lactate levels between the carbohydrate conditions during the time trial.
