French validation of a 20-item scale measuring Internet Gaming Disorder

Updated

Abstract

A total of 166 online video game players demonstrated a good validity for the French version of the IGD-20 scale.

  • The IGD-20 scale is designed to assess problematic use of online video games, based on a six-component model of addiction.
  • Participants reported playing an average of 21.9 hours of online video games per week.
  • Confirmatory factor analysis indicated a six-factor structure for the IGD-20, including salience, mood modification, tolerance, withdrawal symptoms, conflict, and relapse.
  • The validation metrics showed a root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA) of 0.063 and comparative fit indices (CFI = 0.912, TLI = 0.909).
  • The validated scale may provide useful insights for therapists and individuals experiencing Internet Gaming Disorder.
