Validation of the Chinese Munich Chronotype Questionnaire for Hong Kong Youth

Updated

Abstract

A total of 659 participants were included in the analysis of the Munich Chronotype Questionnaire (MCTQ) in Chinese youths.

  • MCTQ parameters, including the midpoint of sleep on free days and workdays, were significantly correlated with scores from the morningness-eveningness questionnaire.
  • Test-retest reliability for MCTQ was strong, with an intraclass correlation ranging from 0.75 to 0.84.
  • Later midpoint of sleep adjusted for sleep debt was significantly associated with increased insomnia and depressive symptoms, after controlling for age and sex.
  • All MCTQ parameters showed significant correlations with actigraphy-based sleep midpoint and other circadian rhythm measures.
  • MCTQ was validated as a reliable tool for assessing chronotype in both healthy sleepers and those with insomnia.
