How well the Japanese Munich ChronoType Questionnaire measures sleep timing preferences
Updated
Abstract
A significant negative correlation (r = -0.580 to -0.652, p < 0.001) was found between Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire scores and mid-sleep parameters from the Munich ChronoType Questionnaire in 450 adults.
- The Japanese version of the Munich ChronoType Questionnaire (MCTQ) was developed and tested for semantic validity.
- Mid-sleep parameters on both work and free days were assessed as indicators of chronotype.
- A strong correlation was observed between the Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire scores and the midpoint of sleep on free days.
- In a physiological validation study with 37 participants, a high correlation was found between chronotype assessed with MCTQ and melatonin onset.
- The findings support the validity of the Japanese MCTQ as an effective measure of chronotype.
