Effects of eating walnuts on heart, metabolism, and body measurements in people with metabolic syndrome

Updated

Abstract

Serum triglyceride concentration was significantly reduced by 0.1 mmol/L following walnut consumption in a pooled analysis of eight randomized controlled trials.

  • Walnut consumption did not significantly influence total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, glucose homeostasis markers, high sensitivity C-reactive protein levels, or anthropometric indices.
  • A significant dose-response relationship was observed between walnut intake and serum fasting plasma glucose and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentrations.
  • The study included data from 549 participants across various trials, indicating a focused analysis on metabolic syndrome effects.
