Effectiveness and Safety of Once-Weekly Semaglutide in Japanese People with Type 2 Diabetes

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Once-weekly semaglutide was linked to better HbA1c, weight, lipid, and liver-function measures in Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes.

Evidence

This retrospective multicenter observational study analyzed 270 per-protocol patients over 52 weeks, finding HbA1c reductions of about 0.9%, body-weight reductions of -4.3 kg at 52 weeks, and gastrointestinal adverse events in 53.7%.

Caveat

The evidence is real-world and nonrandomized, with only 270 of 503 included patients in the per-protocol analysis and treatment discontinuation from gastrointestinal adverse events in 7.6%.
