Weight loss after two types of stomach surgery following unsuccessful sleeve gastrectomy
Updated
Abstract
Among 124 patients undergoing conversion to either Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) or single anastomosis duodenoileostomy (SADI) after sleeve gastrectomy (SG), RYGB showed greater early weight loss.
- Patients converted to SADI had a higher median initial body mass index (BMI) of 44.9 compared to 41.9 for those undergoing RYGB.
- The SADI group experienced a shorter median operative duration, averaging 157 minutes versus 182 minutes for RYGB.
- Readmission rates were significantly lower for the SADI group at 0% compared to 14.75% for RYGB.
- There were no differences in total body weight loss (TBWL) between RYGB and SADI at follow-up periods of 1 and 2 years.
- RYGB patients achieved higher excess body weight loss (EBWL) at 2, 3, and 6 months compared to SADI, with statistical significance in all comparisons.
