Link between rotating night shift work and artery wall thickness in Chinese steelworkers

Abstract

The mean carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) among 3,582 steelworkers was 0.66 mm.

  • Current shift workers had a higher mean CIMT compared to day workers.
  • No significant associations were found between night shift work and mean CIMT after adjusting for confounding factors.
  • This study suggests that rotating night shift work is not linked to subclinical atherosclerosis in this population.
  • Further large-scale studies may be needed to confirm these findings.
