Discovery of a new BBWV2 virus strain and development of a fast, sensitive test to detect it

Abstract

A novel BBWV2 isolate (BBWV2-GZCa) was identified with a detection limit of 7.5 copies/μL.

  • The one-step visual detection assay combines reverse transcription-recombinase polymerase amplification with a CRISPR/Cas12a system.
  • This method is 10 times more sensitive than conventional RT-PCR.
  • There is no cross-reactivity with other common pepper viruses.
  • The assay achieved 100% accuracy when tested on 20 field-collected samples.
  • Results can be obtained within one hour without specialized equipment.
