Abstract
Mangiferin treatment significantly decreased serum triglyceride concentrations and body weight in hamsters fed a high-fat diet.
- Forty male hamsters were divided into three groups: normal control, high-fat control, and high fat with mangiferin.
- Mangiferin at doses of 50 and 150 mg/kg body weight reduced liver weight and visceral fat-pad weight.
- Hepatic triglyceride levels and total free fatty acid contents in both liver and muscle were significantly decreased with mangiferin treatment.
- Mangiferin upregulated the expression of genes linked to fat oxidation while downregulating those associated with fat production in the liver.
- In muscle, mangiferin increased the expression of genes related to fat metabolism.
