Brainstem neurons controlling fullness help reduce weight over time in obese mice

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Brainstem PPG/GLP-1 neurons controlled meal size, and chronic activation reduced eating and body weight in obese mice.

Evidence

Preclinical mouse experiments mapped NTS and IRT PPG neurons, ablated both populations, and chronically chemogenetically activated PPG neurons in obese mice.

Caveat

The pharmacotherapy claim rests on chemogenetic mouse experiments, not a systemically deliverable drug or human obesity evidence.
