Abstract
CHO supplementation during soccer matches is associated with 39% muscle glycogen sparing.
- Players who consumed carbohydrates during matches covered greater distances in the second half.
- Teams that used CHO supplementation scored more goals while conceding fewer.
- Low muscle glycogen concentrations have been observed in players before games.
- Daily carbohydrate intakes may often be inadequate for replenishing muscle glycogen stores.
- Insufficient evidence exists to recommend electrolytes for players with sweat losses of less than 4% of body weight.
