Clinical studies indicate that GLP-1 receptor dual agonists such as mazdutide and survodutide may reduce blood pressure and hyperglycemia while increasing heart rate.

  • Cardio-kidney-metabolic diseases, including obesity and type 2 diabetes, are increasingly common, leading to a need for new treatments.
  • GLP-1 receptor monoagonists are already used for managing type 2 diabetes and related conditions but may have limitations.
  • Dual agonists targeting both glucagon and GLP-1 receptors could offer additional benefits in regulating energy balance and glucose levels.
  • High-dose glucagon has been shown to cause increased heart rate and blood pressure, raising safety concerns for dual agonists.
  • While some dual agonists showed promise, one was discontinued due to significant increases in heart rate and QT interval prolongation.
