Heart health outcomes of a diabetes drug in people with obesity and thickened heart muscle

Updated

Abstract

Of 29,521 patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, 5% received GLP-1 agonists.

  • Patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy on GLP-1 agonists experienced a significant reduction in body mass index.
  • There was a lower rate of all-cause mortality in patients using GLP-1 agonists compared to those who did not.
  • Patients on GLP-1 agonists had reduced heart failure hospitalization rates compared to those not receiving the medication.
  • No significant differences were observed in new-onset atrial fibrillation or ventricular arrhythmia between the two groups.
  • Safety events related to the use of GLP-1 agonists showed no significant differences.
