Heart Health Results in an Obesity Group Similar to the SELECT Study Using Swedish Real-World Data

Updated

Abstract

The SELECT-like obesity cohort (n = 9652) experienced major adverse cardiovascular outcomes (MACE) at a rate of 21.7% over a mean follow-up of 5.4 years.

  • Individuals in the SELECT-like obesity cohort had a mean age of 68.4 years and a mean BMI of 33.1 kg/m.
  • 48.1% of the cohort had a history of myocardial infarction, and 41.7% had a history of stroke.
  • Compared to the general population, the SELECT-like cohort had a higher burden of cardiovascular and obesity-related conditions.
  • The risk of MACE in the SELECT-like cohort was approximately 2.3 times higher than in the general population.
  • Applying the observed treatment effect of semaglutide, the number needed to treat (NNT) to prevent one MACE was estimated at 35.
