Adding two key parts improves Cas12i3-based cytosine and adenine gene editing in plants

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Adding both VP64 and HMG-D boosted Cas12i3-based cytosine and adenine base editing in rice.

Evidence

This plant genome-editing engineering study tested Cas12i3(5M)-based CBE and ABE architectures in rice protoplasts and stable lines, with optimized editors reaching 32.35% C-to-T and 38.24% A-to-G editing efficiencies.

Caveat

The evidence is confined to rice systems and engineered herbicide-resistant germplasm, so performance in other crops or broader breeding targets remains untested in the abstract.
