Daily Body Clock Controls Gene Activity in Fat Cells Both Within the Cells and Through the Whole Body

Updated

Abstract

21% of the protein-coding transcriptome is rhythmic in inguinal-derived adipocytes (IVDAs).

  • Intrinsic circadian regulation influences key processes in energy metabolism, molecular transport, and transcription within adipocytes.
  • Brown adipose tissue (BAT) and IVDAs show more cohesive rhythmic pathways compared to epididymal white adipose tissue (eWAT), particularly around the late-night to early-morning transition.
  • Analysis of transcription factors in IVDAs suggests two distinct regulatory programs: one early program associated with transcriptional regulation and RNA metabolism, and a late program linked to energy metabolism and mitochondrial function.
  • The findings indicate that circadian rhythms in adipocytes may be shaped by both internal clock mechanisms and external systemic cues.
