Features of gut lining bacteria during treatment for Crohn’s disease

Updated

Abstract

Sixty-five genera showed differential abundance between active Crohn's disease and remission.

  • Alpha diversity increased in Crohn's disease patients in remission compared to those with active disease.
  • Microbial communities in remission clustered closer to healthy controls than those in active disease.
  • A positive correlation was observed between the microbial dysbiosis index and clinical disease severity.
  • A negative correlation was found between species richness and the microbial dysbiosis index.
  • Increased inferred metabolic pathways related to Lipopolysaccharide biosynthesis were linked to lower abundance of certain beneficial bacteria.
