Genetic control of biological clock adjustment in fruit flies mapped across the genome

Updated

Abstract

A total of 109 significant SNPs and 28 indels were identified as associated with expression variation in core clock genes in Drosophila melanogaster.

  • Relative expression of core clock genes was measured two hours after light onset.
  • Pdp1ε displayed the highest variation in expression levels, with an 86-fold difference across lines.
  • Cyc exhibited the least variation, with a 11.3-fold difference.
  • Only three significant SNPs were found within clock genes, specifically in Clk.
  • Most associations identified were trans-eQTLs affecting genes with various molecular functions.
  • Candidate regulators included transcription factors and RNA binding proteins, indicating a complex regulatory network.
