Link between daily sleep-wake preferences and blood fat levels using matched group analysis

Updated

Abstract

Participants with evening preference had significantly higher levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol compared to those with morning or intermediate preferences.

  • Circadian preference is linked to variations in blood lipid levels among Korean adults.
  • Evening preference is associated with elevated total cholesterol, triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol.
  • Total cholesterol/HDL-C and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol/HDL-C ratios are higher in individuals with evening preference.
  • A higher atherogenic index of plasma is found in those with evening preference.
  • The findings indicate a potential increased risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases for individuals with an evening preference.
