Abstract
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects roughly 10% of the world's population.
- Disruption of the circadian system may contribute to impaired kidney function and increased CKD risk.
- Evidence suggests that shift work, evening chronotype, prolonged social jetlag, and both short and long sleep duration are associated with elevated CKD risk.
- A total of 34 studies were reviewed, focusing on various factors such as shift work, artificial light at night, melatonin, and sleep health.
- Future research may benefit from standardized approaches and improved measures to clarify causal pathways related to circadian factors and CKD.
