How Couples' Use of Psychedelics Relates to Feeling Connected and Relationship Health

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Survey participants who took psychedelics with a romantic partner reported greater shared understanding and more positive relationship changes than those who did not take them together.

Evidence

This cross-sectional survey of 798 participants, including 81 couples, used multilevel dyadic analyses and found that taking a psychedelic together was associated with greater shared reality and better relational outcomes, while shared reality mediated those positive changes.

Caveat

The evidence is limited by the cross-sectional design and low dyadic participation, so the findings cannot show that shared psychedelic use caused the relationship changes.
