Mineral intake and blood vessel health in people with long COVID

Updated

Abstract

Adequate iron intake was associated with lower brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV).

  • No significant linear associations were found between dietary mineral intake and markers of vascular health after accounting for multiple testing.
  • Zinc density showed a nominal positive association with carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cfPWV), but this did not remain significant after correction.
  • Possible non-linear relationships were observed between magnesium and potassium density with cfPWV and the vascular aging index (VAI).
  • No strong evidence was found for sex-specific differences in the effects of dietary minerals on vascular health.
