Dim light at night leads to weight gain in female mice

Updated

Abstract

Female mice exposed to dim light at night (dLAN) increased body mass despite reduced food intake.

  • Dim light at night is associated with increased body mass in female mice over a six-week period.
  • Mice subjected to dLAN showed a greater rate of change in body mass compared to those in a standard light/dark cycle.
  • Reduced food intake was observed in female mice during the fifth and sixth weeks of exposure to dLAN.
  • The findings suggest that dLAN may disrupt circadian rhythms, leading to metabolic disturbances.
