Short-Term Links Between Maintaining Muscle Mass and Blood Sugar Levels During Tirzepatide Treatment

Updated

Abstract

After 12 weeks, both treatment groups achieved comparable reductions in body weight, with preservation of metabolically active tissue observed in one dietary context.

  • Fat mass decreased in both treatment groups, indicating effective weight loss strategies.
  • Relative preservation of fat-free mass, muscle strength, and resting metabolic rate occurred in the group following a low energy ketogenic therapy.
  • Short-term changes in glycemic parameters such as HbA1c and insulin were statistically associated with changes in fat-free mass, muscle strength, and resting metabolic rate.
  • No consistent associations were found between changes in total body weight or fat mass and glycemic profiles.
  • Baseline glycemic values for participants were mostly within the normal range.
