Abstract
Genomic analyses of five Psilocybe species revealed a greater metabolic diversity than previously recognized.
- P. cyanescens and P. mexicana are identified as producers of the compound .
- Lumichrome and verpacamide A were also detected as metabolites within the Psilocybe genus.
- The findings suggest the presence of a complex secondary metabolome that is not fully understood.
- These observations may provide insights into the pharmacological and toxicological properties of magic mushrooms.
- Potential secondary metabolites may be linked to unexplained effects, such as paralysis, observed after consumption.
