Glucagon-like peptide-1 drugs and heart failure
Updated
Abstract
Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) are associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular events in high-risk diabetes patients.
- GLP-1 RAs have shown benefits in obese patients with cardiovascular disease, even without diabetes.
- Semaglutide and tirzepatide may lead to fewer heart failure hospitalizations in patients with preserved or mildly reduced ejection fraction.
- These medications could improve symptoms and functional capacity in obese patients with heart failure.
- Current data on GLP-1 RAs in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction remain limited.
