Use of Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Medicines and Recovery After Wrist Fracture Surgery in Adults With Type 2 Diabetes

Abstract

Among 1080 adults with type 2 diabetes undergoing distal radius fracture surgery, preoperative GLP-1 receptor agonist use was not associated with significant increases in complications.

  • No significant differences were observed in composite 90-day medical complications between GLP-1 RA users and non-users.
  • Composite 180-day surgical complications also showed no significant differences related to GLP-1 RA exposure.
  • Individual adverse events were rare and did not differ between the groups.
  • Preoperative GLP-1 RA use was linked to lower odds of emergency department visits and inpatient hospital readmissions at 180 days.
  • Healthcare use at 30 and 90 days was similar between the cohorts.
