Effectiveness and Safety of Using a Blood Sugar Drug During Early Pregnancy in Women with Type 2 Diabetes

Updated

Abstract

In a cohort of 3,652 first-trimester pregnant women with type 2 diabetes, the maternal all-cause mortality rate was comparable between those exposed to GLP-1 receptor agonists and a control group after 42 weeks of follow-up.

  • Average age of women in the GLP-1 RAs exposed group was 36.2 years.
  • Secondary maternal outcomes, including gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, and eclampsia, showed no significant differences between the two groups after 42 weeks.
  • The relative risk of fetal cardiac and kidney anomalies was similar in both the GLP-1 RAs exposed cohort and the control cohort.
