Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Receptor Drugs and Heart Problems in Adults With Obesity and Autoimmune Disease

Updated

Abstract

GLP-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1RA) use was associated with a 56% lower hazard of mortality among adults with obesity and autoimmune diseases.

  • GLP-1RA use was linked to a 13% reduction in the risk of stroke or transient ischemic attack.
  • A 31% lower risk of pulmonary embolism was observed in patients using GLP-1RAs.
  • Users of GLP-1RAs showed an 17% reduction in the risk of venous thromboembolism.
  • Emergency department visits were reduced by 21% among those using GLP-1RAs.
  • These findings suggest that GLP-1RA use could provide cardiovascular and survival benefits in this high-risk group.
