Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonists and Their Impact on Mental Well-Being and Depression: A Review of Clinical Trials

Updated

Abstract

Essence

GLP-1 receptor agonists were linked to modestly better psychological well-being but not to reduced depressive symptoms.

Evidence

This systematic review and meta-analysis included 25 randomized trials with 17,751 participants for psychological well-being and 11 trials with 1,961 participants for depressive symptoms.

Caveat

The authors caution that observed psychological benefits are likely indirect and may reflect metabolic or general health improvements rather than direct mood effects.
