Internet gaming disorder and its link to gaming habits, anxiety, and depression in 8-12-year-old private school children in Salem, India

Abstract

The prevalence of Internet gaming disorder (IGD) among children in Salem district was found to be 1.2%.

  • Older children, especially males, exhibited higher rates of anxiety and depression.
  • A positive correlation exists between IGD and both anxiety and depression.
  • Interventions may be necessary to reduce the prevalence of IGD.
  • Suggestions for prevention include limiting screen time and encouraging outdoor activities.
