Lactiplantibacillus plantarum CCFM1019 may reduce polycystic ovary syndrome through a gut-brain process involving butyrate

Updated

Abstract

CCFM1019 reduced PCOS symptoms in a letrozole-induced model by restoring hormone levels and altering gut microbiota.

  • CCFM1019 alleviated ovarian pathological changes in a rat model of PCOS.
  • Restoration of testosterone and luteinising hormone levels was observed with CCFM1019 treatment.
  • Metabolic disorders induced by letrozole were not significantly reversed by CCFM1019.
  • Alterations in gut microbial diversity and increases in short-chain fatty acid producers were noted after CCFM1019 intervention.
  • Rats treated with CCFM1019 showed higher levels of butyrate and polypeptide YY compared to letrozole-treated rats.
  • A potential gut-brain mechanism involving butyrate regulation may contribute to the protective effects of CCFM1019.
