How Light and the Body Clock Together Control the Gene ccg-2(eas) in Two Separate Ways
Updated
Abstract
Light regulates the expression of the gene ccg-2(eas) in Neurospora crassa.
- The gene ccg-2(eas) is controlled by both light and the circadian clock.
- In wild-type strains, light significantly affects the expression of ccg-2(eas).
- Mutant strains lacking sensitivity to blue light show no change in ccg-2(eas) mRNA levels when exposed to bright light.
- In clock-null strains, ccg-2(eas) mRNA is still induced by light, indicating that a functioning circadian oscillator is not necessary for this response.
- These findings suggest that ccg-2(eas) is regulated by two distinct mechanisms: light exposure and circadian rhythms.
