Weight loss and health results of metabolic surgery compared to GLP-1 drug treatment in 14,548 patients

Updated

Abstract

Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RA) are increasingly used for obesity management.

  • There is a lack of comparative studies on the effectiveness of GLP-1 RA versus metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS).
  • Current evidence does not address the cost-effectiveness of GLP-1 RA in relation to MBS.
  • The rising use of GLP-1 RA suggests a need for further investigation into their long-term outcomes.
