Metabolic benefits of 1,3-diacylglycerol in type 2 diabetes linked to gut bacteria signals affecting blood sugar control

Abstract

1,3-Diacylglycerol (1,3-DAG) significantly reduced fasting blood glucose and triglycerides in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) rats.

  • Both low- and high-dose 1,3-DAG treatments lowered fasting blood glucose, insulin, and triglycerides compared to the T2DM model group.
  • 1,3-DAG restored colonic morphology and elevated the expression of G protein-coupled receptor 41 (GPR41).
  • There was an increase in the secretion of Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and peptide YY (PYY) with 1,3-DAG treatment.
  • Serum lipopolysaccharide (LPS) levels were reduced following 1,3-DAG intervention.
  • Microbiota analysis revealed changes in specific bacterial taxa associated with improved glycemic and lipid markers.
