miR-140 reduces cell changes linked to spread and boosts chemotherapy effects in aggressive brain cancer

Updated

Abstract

Downregulation of miR-140 is significantly correlated with poor survival in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) patients treated with temozolomide (TMZ).

  • Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is associated with poor responses to TMZ in GBM.
  • Cathepsin B (CTSB) expression is inversely related to miR-140 levels and poor TMZ efficacy.
  • Overexpression of miR-140 reduces CTSB levels and enhances TMZ cytotoxicity in GBM cells.
  • Increased CTSB levels promote mesenchymal transition and decrease TMZ-induced cell death.
  • Both miR-140 and CTSB are identified as prognostic factors across various cancer types.
