Abstract
Salvianolic acid B nano-assemblies achieved 74.4% drug loading and improved mitochondrial function in chondrocytes.
- Salvianolic acid B (SaB) binds to PINK1/Parkin proteins, which may stabilize and promote their expression.
- SaB nano-assemblies are designed to enhance the activation of mitophagy in osteoarthritis chondrocytes.
- In vitro and in vivo studies suggest that SaB nano-assemblies significantly restore mitochondrial function compared to free SaB.
- These nano-assemblies may facilitate chondrocyte recovery and slow down osteoarthritis progression.
- Intra-articular delivery of SaB nano-assemblies could offer a new treatment strategy for osteoarthritis and other joint inflammatory diseases.
