Modeling how PEG-coated lipid nanoparticles move through the space outside cells

Updated

Abstract

Just 1% PEG on lipid nanoparticles can increase their diffusivity nearly eight-fold in extracellular matrix environments.

  • PEGylated nanoparticles reduce adhesive interactions with extracellular matrix components.
  • Even minimal PEGylation depletes the near-contact shell between lipid nanoparticles and hyaluronic acid chains.
  • The study presents a computational framework to analyze how PEG surface density affects nanoparticle transport.
  • Increased diffusivity of PEGylated lipid nanoparticles may enhance their delivery to target cells.
