Muscle sugar storage after exercise with combined glucose and fructose intake

Updated

Abstract

Total glycogen storage during a 4-hour recovery period was 176 ± 33 mmol x kg(-1) dry muscle for glucose and 155 ± 31 mmol x kg(-1) for glucose/fructose.

  • Immediate postexercise muscle glycogen concentrations were similar for both glucose and glucose/fructose conditions.
  • Mean muscle glycogen synthesis rates did not differ between glucose and glucose/fructose during the recovery period.
  • Plasma glucose and serum insulin responses were comparable for both carbohydrate solutions.
  • Plasma lactate concentrations were significantly higher during the glucose/fructose condition.
