Abstract

The novel multifunctional hydrogel (PVA-Alg/FP) exhibits a tensile strength of 88.2 kPa.

  • This hydrogel integrates iron, protocatechualdehyde, polyvinyl alcohol, and sodium alginate without toxic crosslinking agents.
  • It shows a high self-healing efficiency of 87.4% within 10 minutes.
  • The hydrogel possesses plasticity, ductility, and near-infrared photothermal properties.
  • Biocompatibility is demonstrated along with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial activities.
  • In a rat model infected with Staphylococcus aureus, the hydrogel accelerates full-thickness skin wound healing.
