A total of 22 studies were identified that explore the effects of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) on periodontal health.
- GLP-1RAs, such as liraglutide and exendin-4, may reduce inflammation in periodontal tissues.
- These therapies could decrease alveolar bone loss associated with periodontal disease.
- GLP-1RAs may enhance the formation of bone and tissue by promoting the differentiation of specific stem cells.
- The findings suggest a connection between periodontal disease and incretin signaling, indicating that periodontal treatment may increase systemic GLP-1 levels.
