Semaglutide’s effects on liver scarring in people with HIV

Updated

Abstract

Among 1850 people with HIV, semaglutide was associated with a reduction in liver fibrosis score of -0.64 for those with advanced fibrosis.

  • Semaglutide may reduce liver fibrosis scores in people with HIV who have moderate-to-advanced fibrosis.
  • The largest reduction in fibrosis score was observed in individuals with advanced fibrosis (FIB-4 >2.67).
  • Participants commonly presented with cardiometabolic conditions, including diabetes (59%) and hypertension (80%).
  • The average duration of semaglutide treatment was 218 days.
  • Most participants did not have hepatitis B (93%) or hepatitis C (86%) infections.
