Links between social jetlag and mental health in young people

Updated

Abstract

Seven studies were identified exploring the association between social jetlag and mental health outcomes in young people.

  • Social jetlag may be linked to clinical depression and seasonal depression, particularly in female participants and those living in high latitude regions.
  • Quality of the included studies was moderate, with 10-13 assessment criteria met.
  • The lack of consistent methodologies across studies limited the ability to conduct a meta-analysis.
  • Confounding factors, such as varying methods of measuring social jetlag and mental health, may contribute to unclear findings.
  • Future research is needed to create a standardized measurement and calculation for social jetlag.
