How socioeconomic status relates to heart risk and lifestyle in a Mediterranean population

Updated

Abstract

A total of 1,748 individuals were analyzed for the relationship between socioeconomic status and cardiovascular risk factors.

  • Low educational status is associated with higher LDL cholesterol levels in both men and women.
  • Body mass index is directly linked to low educational levels, with significant findings in both genders.
  • Higher educational status is associated with lower smoking rates among women.
  • No significant association was found between dietary habits and low socioeconomic status in this population.
  • Cultural values may play a more significant role than education in influencing cardiovascular risk factors.
